New Job!

I got a new job as a Nutritionist at a wellness center! This is exactly the career I have been looking for ever since I graduated from Cal Poly with a Nutrition degree. As a Nutritionist, I will be working with both male and female clients (mostly women though), teenagers to older adults. It has been quite an adventure getting to this point as I took some time exploring other opportunities. First, a sales job, then going on to earn a teaching credential. It is amazing how everything fell into place. Now, I can use my teaching skills to educate my clients about my favorite subject, Nutrition! I waited patiently for the time when I would find a job that I was passionate about. A bit confused and frustrated at times, not knowing where to look next, I trusted God was doing his good work and had faith that, with his perfect timing, he would lead me to where he wanted me. Now that I have this job, I feel that this is where he wants me and where I am suppose to be. I will be able to combine my passion for education and nutrition to coach others toward better health!

Half Marathon

My good friend Jess and I completed the Long Beach City Half Marathon on Sunday, October 17th. This was Jess' first half marathon! We had a blast running together and enjoying all of the fun sites and sounds along the way. Without planning it, we both wore the same black and white shorts with a black tank top. Great minds think alike!

The New Old Desk

I was running through our neighborhood one Sunday morning after a beautiful run around Lake Mission Viejo, and something caught my eye. It was a sign that said "Free" attached to a white desk. I couldn't resist the urge to begin thinking of a good place in our house to put it. Immediately, I thought the perfect place for it. Some other pieces of furniture would have to be moved, but I decided to go for it! I ran the rest of the way home and hopped in my little Pontiac Sunfire to go get the desk. I was limited on time since we would be leaving for church in about an hour, so a felt a little pressure to make this a quick process. The owner of the home the desk was in front of came over to help me fit it in the trunk of my car. The desk was very heavy and did not fit in the trunk! I suggested we try putting in a different way. The man looked at me like I was nuts and said, "It is not going to fit that way." I insisted that we give it a try anyway. He was right. The desk did not fit using my strategy. After struggling for a while to fit it in, we gave up trying and I went home, disappointed that the desk of my dreams could not fit in my tiny car. As I was driving away, other ideas of ways to fit the desk in my car started entering my mind. I was determined to get that desk to our house, so I turned around and went back for another attempt of fitting it in my car. I pulled up in front of the man's house again, sure that he was probably annoyed at me by this point. I suggested another way to get the desk in my car. I explained to the man that I wanted to try to fit it in the front seat of the car. Again, he looked at me like I was crazy, but proceeded to move the desk and lift it into the car. It wasn't easy. After about 5 minutes of adjusting and maneuvering, success! The passenger door barely closed all the way and parts of the desk were obstructing my side view mirrors. I was sure to drive really slow and prayed the whole way home that the desk would not fall out. Fortunately, I only had to drive a couple blocks with it like that. I noticed a few stares from the neighbors as I drove home with the white piece of furniture taking up the whole front seat of my car. If they only knew :)
The next challenge was getting it out of the car and into our house. I should mention, Shane was still sleeping and had no idea what was going on. With some patience and muscle, I slowly drug the desk into the house. Of course I made a lot of hullabaloo as I came into the house with this large item, so Shane woke up and came out of the room with a confused look on his face. He asked "Where did you get that?" and "Did you drag that in all by yourself?" I was proud to answer by telling him the desk was FREE and I got it here all by myself! It was a powerful moment. I felt like Super Women. hehehe.
Now the desk sits nicely in the corner of our kitchen. I organized the draws with items such as cards, envelops, stamps, and other crafty items that can be easily assessable. A colorful cart with draws formerly occupied this corner. I put that in a closet where it can still be used to file important papers, but not seen. Now, I am happy to have a cute little desk in it's place. Maybe one day this desk will be passed on to our child. It looks a little too girly to give to a boy, but I am sure we can fix that if need be. Perfect place for them to do their homework. Right now, it's a great place for me to write on my new Blog :)
